TAFE NSW: Gap Year
Challenge
For school leavers, committing to the next three or four years can feel like a pretty big ask.Rising HECS debts, cost of living pressures and an increasingly uncertain job market have made the traditional leap from school straight into university feel less straightforward than it once did.
TAFE NSW needed to show there was another way to keep moving without having your entire future figured out.
Strategy
TAFE NSW already offered hundreds of short courses, from one day to a couple of months. That gave school leavers something they were craving: a way to explore what they might love without signing their life away.So we borrowed a concept usually owned by universities and travel, the gap year, and gave it a TAFE NSW twist. Make the gap year less about taking time off, and more about trying things on.
Idea
We created Gap Year, an ongoing content series inviting school leavers to sample different short courses before deciding what, if anything, they wanted to pursue further.A little taste of a possible future, without the massive commitment. Because sometimes the best way to work out what you want to do is to just give it a go.
